When In Rome

Release Year: 2010

Director: Mark Steven Johnson

Review: An utterly bland, by the numbers romantic comedy.  At no point does the film try to do anything new or interesting.  The fantasy element just seems out of place in an otherwise reality rooted movie.  The jokes are corny, the acting pathetic and the substance weak.  Several of the minor 'love interests' feel completely forced, and the actors across the board feel like they are just there to earn a paycheck.  The Rome backdrop is nice, but no where near enough to save this pathetic attempt at a movie.  Beyond this, even if I bought into all the drivel that is on display, the romantic connection between the leads is non-existant.  It's not that this is a painful movie to get through, there is just a lack of anything compelling, touching, funny-- or really anything else that makes a movie worth watching.
