The Secret of Kells

Release Year: 2009

Director: Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey

Review: The film that came out of no where to get nominated for an Oscar for best animated feature amongst a tough crowd.  The Irish film tells the story of a boy who is confined within the walls of his city in the ninth century and is exposed to the magical powers of the Book of Kells.  It is a movie that is deeply rooted in fantasy, and one that I could never get into.   The highlight was the beautiful use of classic 2D animation. It was a cute story, but it never really dug in emotionally.
