The Land Before Time

Release Year: 1988

Director: Don Bluth

Review: One of those films from my child that I watched almost daily.  There are many films like these which are so engrained in your memory, that the nostalgia blows how good they actually are way out of proportion.  Having not revisited the prehistoric adventure since I got my permanent teeth in, I was a bit nervous.  So many times beloved films while growing up don't hold up so well when watched later in life.  I was pleasantly surprised by how well 'The Land Before Time' holds up.

It's not the most original story, but its simple and heartfelt.  It's a great 'friends' movie.  More so than the plot, its about a group of misfit friends, who are flung together in the midst of chaos.  Each dinosaur has a unique personality which is easily relatable.  It seems like every person has their favorite.  That is the magic of this film.  Watching a group of equally strong characters come together and bond.  It is a sweet story of childhood friendship which holds up very well.
