The Dirty Dozen

Release Year: 1967
Review: This is a character piece if there ever was one. I actually think the war takes a back seat to the strong characters and some fine acting. It's lighthearted, even, at times, borderline slapstick. This works for the majority of the film, but in the final act, when the dozen finally see actual battle, everything feels a bit off. It didn't seem natural seeing these buffoons suddenly thrust into the heart of a vicious battle and actually accomplish anything. Overall it was a fair war movie, with some very colorful characters. All too often war films go overboard with gore and carnage, but this film finds a nice medium and is a fun watch.
