A Streetcar Named Desire

Release Year: 1951
Review: Marlon Brando plays the gruff man part to perfection. His performance makes this movie what it is, powerfully playing the abusive, wild, and yet sincere Stanley Kowalski. The story itself is somewhat disturbing and unsettling, yet on the whole engaging and thought provoking. My only gripe with the film is the lead character played by Vivien Leigh who hammed up her performance when a subtler approach would have been more effective. Her character, Blanche DuBois is fascinating and tragic but the impact of the role was cut by, an at times, irritating performance. None the less this is a quality film that will engross you in its Louisiana atmosphere and capture your emotion with complex characters that are on a whole well acted.

Strangers on a Train

Release Year: 1951

Review:  Another great Hitchcock murder thriller. No one does suspense like Hitchcock, and 'Strangers on a Train' is a fine example of his craft. Robert Walker, who plays the the clever, yet demented Bruno, delivers a memorable performance and is one of the highlights on this film. This is a must see for any Hitchcock or suspense film fan.
