Quantum of Solace

Release Year: 2008

Review: Being that this is a direct sequel that picks up right where "Casino Royal" leaves off, the plot is somewhat confusing if you haven't seen, or are a bit fuzzy on the plot of Casino. This is a pretty weak bond film. There are no real stakes. At no point did I feel that Bond was actually "going rouge". There is just very little on the line for Bond creating no dramatic tension. Not only does the drama fall flat, but the action doesn't do much to induce much thrill either. The entire film is cookie-cutter action with fast editing, over choreographed chase and fight scenes and terrible dialog thrown in between. In the first of the Daniel Craig Bond films, a new gritty tone was introduced, leaving the door wide open for this film to expand upon that and take the franchise to a new level. Unfortunately there is nothing new here. Quantum felt more like an expansion pack to Casino rather than a sequel.
