My Kid Could Paint That

Release Year: 2007
Review: This was a fascinating documentary that delves deep into a little media human interest story. When you hear about four year old Marla, a little girl whose abstract paintings sell for thousands, it peaks your interest and then just disappears. This documentary shows just how big an impact a small news story can have on one family. Above all I enjoyed the filmmakers struggle of how to present the story in his film. He had grown close to the family over the filming, but after the scandal broke, he was unsure of how to portray the family to his audience. The way in which he does decide to do so is brilliant and is what is truly compelling about the film.
