Frost/Nixon

Release Year: 2008

Review: A film about a political interview that is engaging and intense as any film released this year. That is quite an achievement by director Ron Howard and the incredible cast of this riveting film. I wasn't alive when the interview took place, nor do I have any memory of Nixon as president or a person, yet this film still felt relevant and profound. The interview is presented as if a boxing match, the underdog Frost versus the heavy weight Nixon. As choreographed you find yourself rooting for Frost, and in awe of the prowess of Nixon, all climaxing in of the most gripping moments in recent film memory when Frost finally starts connecting with his verbal blows. For a film about an interview to keep your eyes glued to the screen, as this one does, it requires great writing and phenomenal acting. The entire cast delivered, but none as much as Frank Langella who portrays Richard Nixon. He completely becomes the role, and is entirely believable. This is not an easy task considering the he is playing such a well known person like Nixon is. It never once seems as if he is doing an impersonation, but rather defines his own presence. Regardless of your politics (or lack there of), Frost/Nixon is a film that will be enjoyed.
