Ever After

Release Year: 1998 Director: Andy Tennant Review: 'Ever After' is a nice retelling of the classic Cinderella fairy tale, and works nicely as a romantic comedy. Striping it of its fantasy and rooting it in a more realistic setting doesn't diminish its whimsey, the film certainly doesn't take itself too seriously. Drew Barrymore actually plays the Cinderella role well, and is a perfect fit for the tone the movie sets. Given the set up and actors involved, you'd expect a run of the mill, forgettable romantic comedy, but 'Ever After' manages to be interesting enough and smart enough to sneak into the realm of quality film making.
