Defiance

Release Year: 2008

Review: Based on a true story about the Bielski partisans, a group of Jewish brothers who after having their family killed by the Germans form a camp in the forests of Belarus, taking in Jewish refugees, and attacking German soldiers. The true story behind this film is so important and powerful its a shame the film does not give it its due. Never rising above a mediocre war drama, the film often feels heavy handed and labored. It's not a disaster by any means, but it certainly falls short of its potential.
