2009 Oscars: The List

It's that time of the year again.  Awards season.  The films are (mostly) out, and now I play catchup.  I did this last year and it was a lot of fun.  I enjoyed the awards so much more having seen almost all of the nominees, and I saw a whole lot of movies I would have otherwise missed out on. I've got a much better jump than I did last year, and have a couple more months, so my scope will be broader.

Here are the movies I've seen which were released in 2009, ranked by how much I liked them (some reviews have not yet been posted):

  1. Inglorious Basterds
  2. 500 Days of Summer
  3. Whatever Works
  4. Fantastic Mr. Fox
  5. Avatar
  6. The Brothers Bloom
  7. Up
  8. Funny People
  9. Where the Wild Things Are
  10. Moon
  11. Thirst
  12. District 9
  13. Zombieland
  14. Adventureland
  15. I Love You, Man
  16. Star Trek
  17. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
  18. A Serious Man
  19. Watchmen
  20. Paper Heart
  21. Angels and Demons
  22. The Hangover
  23. Paranormal Activity
  24. He's Just Not that Into You
  25. Trick 'R Treat
  26. This Is It
  27. Year One
  28. Drag Me To Hell
  29. World's Greatest Dad
  30. Fast and Furious
  31. Observe and Report
  32. Bruno
  33. Hotel For Dogs
  34. 2012
  35. 12 Rounds
  36. Post Grad
  37. Land of the Lost
  38. The Ugly Truth

Now the hard part.  Making a list of the movies that are generating a lot of top 10 list buzz, critical acclaim and award speculation.  If I'm missing any, let me know!

  • An Education
  • Antichrist
  • Brothers
  • Blindside (Ugh.. how did she get a nomination??)
  • Broken Embraces
  • Coraline
  • Crazy Heart
  • Humpday
  • The Hurt Locker
  • O'Horten
  • In the Loop
  • Invictus
  • It's Complicated
  • Julie & Julia
  • The Last Station
  • The Lovely Bones
  • The Maid

  • Precious
  • A Prophet
  • A Single Man
  • Sugar
  • Summer Hours
  • Treeless Mountain

Over the coming months leading up to the Oscars, in addition to my normal reviews, I will contribute my award consideration for each film.  A bit before the actual show, I will make my predictions, and see how I do.

So it begins!
